Executive Medical Director (Chief Quality Officer) (2014 to 2019)

  • Set strategy for quality improvement and value-based care for the clinic
    • Strategically positioned the clinic for success in MIPS
    • Successfully led the clinic’s effort in our Medicare Shared Savings Program partnership
  • Helped to develop and oversee a new department of population health
  • Successfully introduced training and auditing for HCC coding for all providers
  • Successfully achieved shared savings goals for the majority of our value-based contracts
  • Improved quality across multiple metrics including breast cancer screening, colon screening, and certain immunizations to better than the 90th percentile

Associate Medical Director (2012 to 2014)

  • Helped CMO and took on primary responsibility for the orientation of new physicians
  • Re-designed orientation process for physicians by 1) introducing new providers to best practices and 2) re-structuring orientation so that more information was retained – i.e changed from 3-4 days of orientation upfront to 2-3days upfront plus one day 6wks later
  • Worked with colleagues in the clinical informatics committee and medical CQI committee to establish the e-Clinical Discussion Forum whereby physicians can share articles/apps/cme ideas/etc.
  • Managing population health via PCMH initiatives & helping to implement this initiative within the primary care sections
  • Worked with the Clinical Informatics Committee to develop “smart templates” that provide point of care reminders to providers when certain vaccines or cancer screenings are indicated
  • Worked with the CMO and physician recruitment committee to introduce the concept of behavioral assessments for hiring new providers to improve the likelihood of hiring the “right” provider
  • Helped CMO in implementing and enforcing compliance with various issues including: timely completion of medical records, timely sign-off on labs, timely submission of charge tickets, etc.

Chief of Family Medicine (2010 to 2014)

  • Chaired monthly meetings and led one of the larger sections within the Austin Diagnostic Clinic
  • Improved vaccination rate among family doctors by over 30% compared to the prior year by removing impediments and introducing such things as standing orders for various vaccines
  • Worked closely with clinical manager, health coaches and physicians to successfully bring nearly all family doctors above national average with respect to diabetic quality metrics
  • Reducing refill requests by engaging providers to proactively refill meds at the time of visit
  • Introduced new revenue streams among family doctors by making spirometry and certain vaccines available in-house
  • Worked with the chief of the clinical informatics committee to standardize the template used by family physicians (thus significantly reducing the number of templates used)
  • Successfully worked to remove some of the negative influence of drug reps and the appearance of impropriety by eliminating drug company sponsored luncheons within the section
  • Family Medicine section award: Awarded the Quality Improvement award by the MCQI committee for achieving high quality metrics in various categories in 2011
  • Family Medicine section award: Angie’s List Super Service Award Winner for 2012

  • Served on multiple committees including: MCQI, credentials, physician recruitment & retention, contracting committee
  • Served as TMA alternate delegate in 2014 to 2016
  • Multiple media appearances discussing topics ranging from flu vaccines, perils of the summer heat, medication safety, breast cancer screening, mens’ health among others
  • 2011 Bridges to Excellence Program – Certificate of Recognition awarded by Health Care Incentives Improvement Institute, Inc.
  • Served as Medical Director for Kindred at Home (formerly IntegraCare)in Austin
